Yes. This won't be useful in future when all widgetsets will be in one encoding
AND/OR when there will be another mechanism to translate .lfm files (this hack
is a bad idea, I agree, but it WORKS).
May be LFM comments?

What is reediting?
Let's classify all problems of such changes:
1. Source problem (both national comments and string constants). It will be
possible to fix this with my patch only by including {&encoding=ANSI}in

I noticed that this is not acceptable - the answer is that win32 will be moved

Besides, in current implementation UTF8 might have a disadvantage with 2-byte+
encodings. Those encodings are in WideString format, and conversion to old
string can be done either automatically or via special procedures (as it seems
to be on kylix). UTF8 is implemented as a string. It has some a

A source code is a text file.
Free Pascal is already prepared to handle source code including a BOM marker.
This is only about unicode text files. Can you imagine that BOM will be in a
text file given to pascal compiler?

How to store the encoding is something well stablished by
international standards:

I said not just about text files in IDE (it is not really interesting), but
about pascal project files. Where to store encoding?
It is a good question. The easiest way is to add a string to the .lpi file
which either contains the locale of all the project (but it is not so easy to
completely con
OK, I understand the problems of using utf8 on windows, but I am speaking about
other things. Why lazarus should save (and load) pascal (and only pascal, not
lfm/lrs, not po) files in the internal encoding? If gtk2 version supports utf8,
it forces user to save all files in utf8, when if windows

Read the Manual (which in our case means wiki):

Why not? Course, it is supported. But... At first, double size increasing makes
it sensitive (especially in mob.phones). But it is the least problem.
Traditionally one symbol is considered as 1 byte (it is more than enough for
latin and cyrillic), it makes many incompartibilities with a good old
I'll change it (but it is a bad idea to save text files only in utf-8 in linux,
but in ansi in windows, besides, utf8 is very rarely used in final Russian
files, when for internal functions it is well). Lazarus-ccr may be a good place
(it is in one of my sf.net projects, but it is a little part)
It would also be nice to search the bug tracker to see if this bug was
already reported and fixed on the past, and then look at the revision
which fixed it. It should show how to fix it again.

In this case I recomend creating a bug report with a small test program.

The bug is now solved.
You can take a look at how the bug was solved here:
http://www.freepascal.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi?root=lazarus&rev=9989&view=rev
You may want to consider using this knowledge on the future to send
patches =) And thus speedup bug solving of things that botter you.

Parece que a solução é simples mesmo, deve ser algum lugar
"esquecendo" de chamar Designer.Modified, mas então porque você não
anexou a correção ao bug ao invés de ficar dando chilique?

Hello Colin,
I see you have Lazarus-0.9.16 I had similar problems with that release, it may
pay you to use 0.9.17 which works really well for me.
I am a newbie myself so can't help a lot, but don't give up, you'll get there.
A very good set of components for Firebird is fblib
(http://fblib.altervista.org/). Totally cross platform and stable - we
have used it in commercial apps for almost a year now. It also has
the Administration API implemented as well. Something still missing in
the SqlDB units.

Hello Michael,Bismay and Graeme,
Thanks for your recommendation, I will use Firebird as you suggest.

I have found the Font file ok

not installed so I tried an update and it

Would a mechanism be implemented such as hook for external

Documents and demos can reduce complexity.
Gird is very important for apps such as MIS Application.
I think that TcxGrid , which is a production of DevExpress
Comp. , is a good exmaple.
