For the time being a rather crude workaround is:
- boot to the live session
- launch konsole and do 'sudo apt purge ubiquity-slideshow-kubuntu'
- run installer as normal
Slideshow will not get invoked, so no need for PyQT5webkit, so no crash.
There may well be a command line option for ubiquity
I have been running my main kubuntu machine with these packages since
they were staged, and have not encountered any problems so far as a
result.
In fact another tester has reported that, as it is expected it should,
it fixes the secondary cause of KDE bug:

Kubuntu has the fixed 16.04.3 packaged staged in ppas.
May be subject to a much delayed (due to developer availability
problems) FFe, which would include said update.
Should that FFe not fly, then can get a fix done. Or if preferred,

I would note that opening rar files requires unrar to be install, which
is not the default. That has been the case for as long as I can
reasonably recall though. That is not a new issue, or the issue that
broke Ark's rar handling in this bug.

I would note that this is the first gpgme version from gpg directly,
with the Qt bindings built. These will be essential for future KDE
applications and frameworks, as the gpgmepp previously built in KDE's
own packages is being dropped.

Looking at the testing work Jose did a couple of weeks ago (and doesn't
seem to have come back to yet), his testing changes consolidate to
effectively the attached diff.
I am unsure if such changes are acceptable for a package upload, or if
they are only acceptable as diagnostic/troubleshooting ch
Unfortunately it is only on the ubuntu build system that the test in
question seems to hang. On debian's build system, and local
pbuilder/sbuild chroot and straight from source, the tests complete
without issue. So I am unable to investigate the cause further.

Unable to replicate this using kate 4:16.12.3-0ubuntu1 here. My list of
recently opened file is being populated as it should.
Data should be in ~/.config/katemetainfos IIRC.

Confirm that cdrskin dependency is still not enough on it's own for this
version of k3b. wodim is still needed, otherwise burning an iso for
example will not proceed.

So it's conflicting with a file from a completely unofficial package of
digikam 5.5 that you installed from someone's ppa in Yakkety?
This is an issue with using unofficial sources that have conflicting
files and versions. Not a bug in the ubuntu package.

Seem that the upstream snapshot was missing the translation files, and
not picked up as our CI strips those on it's normal build and packaging.
I will look at a bugfix update to restore them.
