up from a news item in the early part of the war when an embed reporter
interviewed a "Apache" pilot that he landed at the fuel point to fuel up. Now
we know it is called JP-8

Sorry Mark it can not be used in "Spark Ignition" engines but it can be used in
Diesels, Gas Tubines & Jets. All military combat vehicles use it including the
Abrahms tanks as they are turbine powered(as in Turbo-Prop).

It just so happens that I'm the lead in a project in which we've just built
(commissioned, actually) a spark-ignited engine that burns JP-8. It's not
that uncommon, as there are at least 5 manufacturers that I know of doing

karisene but I thinh they started them on gasoline and then switched over
to the fuel i think they called it disclent or something like that

55 years ago my uncle had a McCormick farm tractor that started on gasoline
then switched over to kerosene to run. My uncle would only run the engine for
less than 10 second on gasoline before switching to the kerosene. The gasoline

Sorry guys, need to correct this. The army does run essentially one fuel -
JP8. It is a diesel fuel with a certain higher testing standard for
aircraft. It can not be used in spark ignition engines. The army runs
primarily JP8 in all equipment. The army has very few engines which use
