Now that I understand what your doing (finally), let's call it a spacer plate instead of a washer, I know that's what threw (me) off in understanding what you were doing, but I think I would agree that spacing the engine forward with washers might be a better choice. Posted - Thursday, 03/01/07

As long as the washer is just taking up space, which is all it is doing there should be no problem. As long as everything is as tight as is recomended ie torque values, what could it hurt? It's just acting as an extention of the shaft. If everything is a proper fit there should be no
