The better turnbuckle barrels have a witness hole in them. As long as
the threads engage enough that you can't see all the way through the
hole or poke a piece of safety wire through them you have enough
threaded in.

A maximum of 3 threads showing outside the barrel is the legal requirement.

long and one too short. I'm looking in 43.13 and the dark web for the maximum
and minimum insertion of the ends with no luck. All I see is how to safety wire
