I had foam in between all the wood on my first KR. It was covered with one layer of glass from the firewall to just aft of the seat back then it had automotive upholstry on the glass with contact cement. It really made a big difference in the noise and probably didn't add more than 3 or 4 poun

I fly often for my groceries, and here is what I wear every time: David Clark H10-40, ANR upgrade by Headsets inc, gel seals, and most importantly, foam earplugs. My favorite is the Laser Lite by Howard Leight Co. I realize this seems a little extreme, but after 35 years of prop drone and bad
