My engine has been returned to VW Engines to have a problem fixed with the
oil Cooler set up. (a damaged fitting in the block that needed some work.)

I have a belt drive on a Subaru. They are not that
smooth at idle. The belt has to have play so when the
gears worms up it will not brake the belt. my belt is
a 4" belt cut in half.If you try to use the full 4" it
will trap air at the top of the gear and stretch. I
always worry about the belt brak

Some of my friends fly Challengers, most are Rotax 503's, all are belt
drive.
They have been flying them for years, 10 or more. I don't know any history
or how often they are changed but I've never heard of a belt failure. They
turn 6000+ rpm and seem to hold up well.
