I found that after rebuilding the tail with a significantly larger tail, and
adding flaps (belly board would work as well), the plane is much more stable
and can be set up to fly a reasonably stable approach (and flies nicely hands
off in cruise). Stability for an IFR approach is really the iss
I bought part # AR111-CW9W-30 from SuperbirghtLEDs.com. This is a drop in
replacement for GE-4509 100W landing lights I used in my KR and SuperCub. Both
planes had the landing lights mounted with this kit from Aircraft Spruce:

Met him at the KR Gathering in Chino. He is very personable and
knowledgeable. I had a great conversation with him. I believe that his KR
is now stored somewhere in the US as he plans to resume his adventure when
the weather turns warm again as his next place is somewhere in Alaska.

pardon my ignorance as I believe I may have missed a very important part

Put a Dynon auto pilot on your existing Dynon D10A, D180, Skyview or other such
product for $1500 and you will see how stable it is.This took all the work
out of flying my KR in bumpy conditions.

The KR is not "stable enough" for IFR? Only useful enough for "fun
flying"? Unsuitable for long-distance travelling and can't carry a heavy
load? What a bunch of hooey.
What Dan said is certainly true . . . if you aren't comfortable on

Probably should have said "if you have to travel to a schedule..."

Trevor; You sound just like me when I was starting out. High performance

distraction and delay from flying your KR! Use a 172 for your early IFR

Yes, the KR is a really nice cross country aircraft. However, like many GA
aircraft, and more importantly, like most GA pilots, if you and it are not
IFR rated and current, you will most likely be having big trouble depending
on it for travel on a schedule. IFR is the key to being able to get to

OK. Larry knows I'm pulling his leg, but the KR is actually a pretty decent
plane for travel. I know Joe, Mark and a few others would certainly agree with
me.
