My questions about wing pins could have caused concern.Using wing pins in a
sailplane is a recognised standard practice.The weight/load of the wings
whether parked or flying impose a terrific locking load on the pins with the

I used 8ea. AN385 taper pins for my wing attach fittings. On the large end I
turned it down and cut some 5/8" threads and drilled it for a cotter pin.
When installed there are two spacers that set the taper pin into position
and are clamped in place by the two nuts. This acts like two short bolts.

When my aluminum tanks were done, the person who welded them swore he did a
leak check. He lied. The tanks showed numerous holes with the water test,
but even those we found were not the end of it.

a water leak will only show the worst possible leaks. Gas will pass
through a pin hole that will hold water.
