I just caught the tail-end of a news story about an experimental aircraft
that made a rough off-field landing somewhere in the Tampa area
I took a look at some photos from the local Tampa news and the aircraft
depicted is way too big for a KR.

Was it light blue with a blue tinted canopy? There was one like that from
down Tampa way.

looks like a KR-2.

Sounds about right for a KR-2 with retractable gear. Also check the longeron
material lengths, approx 5/8" square x approx 12' in length. KR-2S's have
longerons that are 12'-2 cut from stock approx. 14' long.
