Zebra searching is
slower, not as powerful and more resource-intensive, but easier to set up.
2. Put it (back?) into Zebra mode (it sounds like you set it up using
Zebra). You'll have to turn off the NoZebra system preference, rebuild the
Zebra index using rebuild_zebra.pl and make sure that zeb
t (much like the way most barcode scanners work), then
it would be possible to use it with Koha. You'd just use that hash as the
user's password.
If this is not possible, you'd have to do custom development to get the
fingerprint reader working, to the best of my knowledge.

That sounds like a very good idea. It might be best to have a seperate
function like output_error, though, because otherwise each script that
raises a 404 will have to deal with it in the template somehow (and most
don't; for instance, opac-detail gives some odd error in C4::XSLT).
For instance:
