Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'm working on cleaning up the code
and it seems to make sense to also clean up the templates a bit since
the old array of hashes was confusing and had caused a couple of bugs
preventing the subtitle from displaying.

Hi,
depending on the reader you might be able to reconfigure it to read
shorter barcodes too. You'll have to refer to the reader's manual to
find out more about this.

Our library was upgraded to Koha 18.05.05 this weekend, so I went back and
added the “dateonly” placeholder for the borrowers.dateexpiry field in a
notice, but I still see the same issue. Koha does not interpret it correctly
and instead just outputs “<>” in the e-mail,
