I am not sure.
I have loaded as many as 700 at once and there were no problems.
But, I personally like to import smaller batches so I can check them all.
I am not sure what others are experiencing with large-batch imports.

I have import over 17k and it works, but the javascript o whatever it is
that load the bar will not work (same for revert), it is better import small
batches.
