We have candidates for almost all positions, but
I tried using /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -v -r -a
-b -x
It executed successfully, I got the following results:
Zebra configuration information
Zebra biblio directory = /var/lib/koha/zebradb/biblios
Zebra authorities directory = /var/li

This is where I would recommend using 'screen'.
$ sudo apt-get install screen
$ screen
[ nice junk explaining things ]
[Oops! Disconnect ]
$ screen -r
[ This is for resuming it. ]
$ exit
[ screen will clear ]
$ exit
[ you will be logged out ]

Before we updated to koha 3.10.x we were using no_zebra.

Try running with -x and -v. Putty timing out sounds weird, but then it's been
about 10 years since I've used windows so I have no idea what putty does
anymore.

successfully
misc/migration_tools/rebuild_zebra.pl -b -r ..I was unable to run this
command, each time I ran it, putty times out because of inactivity.

Did you make sure you followed all the instructions, including running the
remove items from marc script. Check the upgrade instructions in the INSTALL
file.
If you can't circulate it sounds like you missed this step.
