Hi Jean-Paul,
for 3D modeling and CAD interchange please have a look at kicad StepUp
script and FreeCAD...
http://sourceforge.net/projects/kicadstepup/
http://freecadweb.org/
you can get your pcb and parts in full colors and in STEP and VRML format
FreeCAD is free and heavily maintained and it

Hi,
KiCad works just fine without an internet connection, and based on the
strong opinions of many of the developers,I can only assume it will remain
so for a long time.
Caching proxy servers are available written in many languages, but are not

Perhaps not so necessary.

Hello.
I often get located at places without internet connectivity. This is
annoying.
What about a Python script that caches/stores datasheets locally? Would it
be possible?
Kind regards.

I have no knowledge of Heeks products.
For my 3D needs when designing an enclosure, I use OpenSCAD that does
everything I need and is free and maintained.

While I am not a heavy user of 3D shapes, I strongly agree with Wayne.
The 3D shapes should be part of the Extra package, and the downloader tool used
only for updates.
This can be tricky as I do not know what kind of rev control is installed on
the library.

When I checked HeeksCAD more than 2 years ago it was no longer maintained.
If anyone thinks it can be useful they can always write a plugin after the

Perfect. All the signs here point to a misconfiguration in my build (which
unfortunately means a misconfiguration in a lot of builds) but hopefully I
can get it tracked down shortly.
When I first started my builds, they were nice and snappy, so if we've

My current build is not very current (5796), but…
Scrolling/Zooming is not as smooth as with GAL (which is really responsive),

Are you configuring osx builds with -DUSE_WX_GRAPHICS_CONTEXT=ON? I
know on linux, this brings the legacy canvas to it's knees because it's
effectively cairo.

Exactly the feedback I needed. I'll have a patch for

Hi folks,
How is everyone else's graphics performance in pcbnew on OS X?
GAL works nice and fast, but the traditional canvas isn't usable on my
relatively beefy Macbook Pro.
This isn't a new regression, but it hasn't always been this way, and has
been discussed previously on the mailing list.

On windows the 3D shapes downloader seems to work fine. No one has

I apologize. Some of the details in my message are incorrect. I do not
distribute the 3D models in the extras package.
I am still curious as to the "battle readiness" of the 3D shapes downloader.

Hi folks,
I am investigating some OS X bugs and packaging issues, trying to get
everything ready for the stable release.
Is the 3D shapes downloader wizard ready for people to use? I tend to tune
out when the 3D stuff is on the mailing list as I don't really use it.
Right now, I package the 3D
Hey Brian,
I went ahead an committed my patch to the product branch since you are
on holiday until the 28th. I want to get an rc2 out soonish and I
didn't want to wait. Hopefully this resolves the issue. Enjoy your
holiday.
Cheers,

Matthew Beckler and I will be presenting at Maker Faire NY on Saturday,

If you're around and want to talk KiCad, let's meet up!
