I have dell xps 13 too and the latest kernel where brightness works is
3.8.0-29. So I'm staying on it right now (Ubuntu 13.04) and according
the comments it's not safe to upgrade to 13.10.

Public bug reported:
If my laptop runs out of battery, the next time I start it up and put in
my disk password, I get a black screen that goes nowhere. I always have
to hard-reset the laptop in order for the OS to load after I put in the
disk password.
ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10
Public bug reported:
I'm getting UBSAN complains every boot, this issue exists for years, but

Title:
[SRU][Ubuntu 22.04.1]: Observed "Array Index out of bounds"
Same issue here - after an upgrade to my Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS installation
(not lubuntu), the system either does not boot anymore, or it can load
older kernels but without the proprietary nvidia driver loaded.
