Hi Daniel, not a problem I will try a few kernels out.
Just to add I noticed over the weekend, when using the laptop on it own it
doesn't suspend anymore when closing the lid.
All related I'm guessing.

laptop with the HDMI and hub plugged in. The login screen
displayed on the External monitor, logged in and external monitor was
setup correctly as the default monitor.
Tested suspend and that worked as expected.
All seems to be working as correctly now

expected.
