# cat /sys/class/drm/card0/error | head -2
GPU HANG: ecode 9:0:0x, hang on rcs0

I also had the issue on the 5.3.0-45 kernel but it happened once for 2 seconds
every two days.
It wasn't even noticeable unless you really looked for it. The 5.3 kernel
series seems to be a total write off at this point.
While it likely isn't allowed as a solution it might be less effort to

To be clear 5.3.0-51 did NOT include the backported patches.
Proposed 5.3.0-52.46 had some and 5.3.0-52.46+lp1861395v1 had more.
Out of curiosity could the people who are still having hangs on the 5.3.0-52.46

i9-9880H and i3-8100 both Coffee Lake Gen 9
It's hard enough debugging this directly on hardware. Doing it in a VM isn't
going to be helpful.
Which CPU models are still failing with 5.3.0-52.46 or 5.3.0-52.46+lp1861395v1?

Public bug reported:
With the latest kernels on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, my onboard Ethernet has
stopped working.
Last known good kernel: Ubuntu 5.4.0-21.25-generic 5.4.27
Current (bad) kernel: Ubuntu 5.4.0-28.32-generic 5.4.30
Ethernet controller:

Clicked through from packages.ubuntu.com, seems like linux-signed is the
right package, not linux-meta
** Package changed: linux-meta (Ubuntu) => linux-signed (Ubuntu)

Phy ID from good kernel:
$ cat
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:0a.0/:03:00.0/mdio_bus/r8169-300/r8169-300:00/phy_id
0xc2077002
Both r8169.ko and realtek.ko exist in /lib/modules for both the good and
bad kernels - I'm not sure if that's what you wanted to know?

Had to search through the all the menu options twice to find it.
Enabling the LAN Boot ROM had no (noticeable) effect.
The only difference I can see from a quick scan through is in the dmesg
output of the good kernel giving IRQ 36 instead of IRQ 35.

After it was pretty clear a stable kernel wasn't coming any time soon for 19.10
I gave up and took a dangerous leap. The only way I was going to get a 5.4
kernel was to move to 20.04.
It was dangerous and I had to get there through a do-release-upgrade -d. Highly
not recommended if you don't kno
I've flashed the FF bios (interestingly, my CPU was actually unsupported
on the BIOS I was running).
Same problem, both with and without the LAN Boot ROM option set. The
phy_id remains the same.

Frustratingly, this seems to have now resolved itself, so I can't test
the patch. All I did was leave the machine off for a few hours and turn
it back on - then it was working again.
I now can't reproduce the problem, with or without the Lan Boot ROM
option. The PHY ID now reports as 0x001cc912.
Fairly sure it was just a reboot.

Ethernet not working/Realtek RTL8169 fails to load
Status in linux-signed package
Testing with the the 5.7.0-050700rc6-generic kernel does not change the
behavior. Sound output does not work, and the 'Dummy Output' remains in
the Sound section within the Settings application.
When testing the system with Linux Mint 19.3 with kernel version

@kaihengfeng, not sure how to capture dmesg, as the boot process never
completes preventing me from accessing a command line. Also, I am
unable to switch to another TTY session. Can you please provide guidance
or direct me to a article that explains how to capture the log?

@Hui,
Thank you for looking deeper into the problem, and for your explanation.
I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the speaker to the audio output
jack as you suggested, however it did not change the behavior. The
'Dummy Output' remains, and no sound is heard.
@Kai, I added the PPA you link
