By passing libata.force=noncq to kernel in grub, the blkid timeout
problem on 12.04.3 liveusb is gone. Also this seems to solve a random
lock up problem on installed 13.10.

On my Macbook air 6,2 (2013), Ubuntu 12.04.3 fails to boot and spils
"blkid timeout" errors. It works better with 12.04.4, but the
installation crashes on grub-efi-amd64-signed package. However, the

There are actually two problems:
1) backlight and keyboard light are turn on fully at boot time w/o respecting
the original settings. I found the same problem even in single user mode.
Turning off KMS with "nomodeset" in grub will preseve the brightness level, but
X will go into error.

I've got the same problem on 13.10 on macbook air 6,2 (2013). Both
standard US and Machintosh layout maps "`~" into other characters.

mention that I've tried acpi_backlight=vendor on 13.10 (as my friend $4
suggested) and the same problem persists. As to the keyboard light, it's
set to maximum at login (lightdm?) screen, which it different from
screen backlight. But
No. Once reboot, the screen backlight brightness becomes normal (as
before boot into ubuntu), but the keyboard backlight remains maximum
even booted into OSX. However, the keyboard light level changes to the
previous state after pressing the hotkey. This means that the keyboard
light level is kept
