Just another observation - when my palm of the right hand touches the touchpad

Update: It seems as if the issue has solved itself - not sure if any
patch in the meantime did this or not, but for now, it seems as if the
touchpad behaves normally again.
I'll keep an eye on this and update as needed. Thanks!

Update: I guess I spoke too soon - the behavior is not fixed... I don't
get it while today it's back in full force. Didn't do anything
different. Guess I have to use an external mouse. :(

That sounds like a good idea, Christopher.
Regarding Problem #1, I do remember that this was working just fine in 12.10.
Once I stepped up to 13.04, this functionality was lost. But along the way I
might have stepped up the BIOS version, too. I think I remember that I bought
the ASUS G75VW with
Since my cat shredded the mouse cable, I am now in dire need of the
universal receiver for my wireless mouse to work. The touchpad is just
no substitute for real mouse input. So, is there an ETA as to when we
can expect a final and complete fix?

Your 3.10.0-5-generic did the trick. Thanks again. :) It's nice to be
able to use a mouse again.
Let's hope that the official fix will be available really soon, too. I
am still scratching my head how something so seemingly mundane takes so
long to get fixed. ;)

Joseph - on another note (since I am able to interface with you here in

Folks,
I am currently on kernel version 3.11.0-2-generic, and the following
(what I assume are) ACPI calls no longer work via Fn keys:
Fn+F2 = Toggle wifi on/off (works manually from the Network Indicator)
Fn+F5/F6 = Adjust screen brightness (doesn't work at all, not even fr
I forgot to add that when pressing the power button now, the laptop
simply shuts down. Previously, when pressing the power button, a menu
would pop up, allowing me to select various shutdown option -- not
anymore.

I already tried that, with my current kernel parameters looking like
this: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash resume=/swapfile.swap"
The only thing that changes is that I am now getting an indicator for

Forgot to mention that pretty much everything Fn key related worked back
in 12.10, with the exception of the screen brightness, which -- oddly
enough -- required going into suspend, and coming out of suspend, before
the screen brightness would work.
Starting with 13.04 and now 13.10, I pretty much

I am unable to load the desktop with the kernel rc. It just hangs indefinitely.
Don'tI need the linux-image-extra package for this kernel so my laptop can
complete the boot process?

Another thing I tried out of curiosity -- I downgraded the BIOS to ver

Results: Fn+F2 (toggle wifi) came back to life, however, no other

It seemed as if Fn+F5/F6 felt smoother, more fine-grained, however, the

@Joseph,
this is not a kernel issue, however, a plymouth vs uswsusp.
This seems to be a known issue, and the question is why can't this be
