I'm still not sure what we're looking at here, especially if the
original message this bug deals with has anything to do with the other
described buggy behaviour here, which are: random freezes, display
flickering, not working external displays etc. I watched the development

I have to revice my comment from January 4th. The error is gone without
external display connected with 4.4.0 rc7 for me too, still occuring
with ext. display connected. I'm not sure what I was looking at, maybe
booted the wrong kernel, stupid me.
Since yesterday 4.4.0 rc8 is released, same behavi
Yes this patch is in the mainline kernel v4.5-rc1-wily. But I think
regarding our problem here it does only what it says: shut up the

I can confirm comment #44.
Running 3.19.0-29-generic #31~lp1500751Commit90dcba7ee works fine for me

The kernel from comment #46 didn't resolves the bug. The issue remains
and even the reboot-workaround don't do the trick. When I disable splash
then I can enter the passphrase, but afterwards the boot hangs with the
kernel-log repeatedly stating

I can confirm that 3.19.0-31-generic #36~RevertsV2 works without any of
the issues.
@rolfinator (seb2): Yes I have the same issues with the 3.19.0-30 kernel
stated in the initial post (plus some random system freezes, except the
workaround "boot -> wait for dm-crypt passphrase, which can't be ente
Maybe I don't get it, but: Is the fix only shutting up the kernel

@joakimkoed Yes this seems to be an upstream issue, see (updated)
related freedesktop bug above, with no (working) fix released yet.
I can confirm the behaviour with an without connected external monitor
(already confirmed for 4.2. 0-16 genirc, can also confirm for
4.3.3-040303-generic).
