I did not upgrade my Ubuntu installation. However the black screen

I just did a reinstall using nomodeset. Afterwards I gathered some log
files out of /var/log/ in the hopes that they may be of some help.
After the installation I booted up and logged into my fresh installation
without nomodeset, which soon after resulted in a black screen. So I had

Just to clarify I was able to deploy 20.04 on a machine with the same
hardware configuration in the week before the 5th without problem. I did
not update MAAS or anything else in the meantime, so my assumption is
that MAAS must have synced the new image and the new image is not

I can also confirm this problem for an older Fujitsu Siemens notebook
(Intel Core Duo T2300, 1 GiB RAM, BIOS v. 1.20, Intel Mobile 945GM/GMS,
943/940GML945). Kernel 3.19.0-11 runs fine, 3.19.0-12 freezes during
boot with exactly the same symptoms as described above.
Removing 'quiet splash' did not
Just did another test. Selecting recovery mode for kernel 3.19.0-12 and
then resume seems to work and I could log in successfully, though
resolution is then limited to max. 1024x768 and graphics is extremely
slow (resolution should be max. 1280x800 for my nb).

Ubuntu 16.04 newest nVidia drivers version 367.35. Same problem as
everyone in here. Unable to enter password after installing the nVidia
driver. Screen stays frozen with no input.
Well, what's worked for me as a workaround is to change:

The regression appears to have been resolved as of:

It seems that installing libinput-tools (and its dependencies) solved
the problem, somewhat.
Now, after flipping to tablet mode, it works, but it flipping back to
laptop mode doesn't activate the keyboard and trackpad.
I also installed a screen rotator tool, which works for about few

On Ubuntu 20.04, WiFi won't authenticate after the upgrade, and I had to
"forget" it, then reenter the password. Much less severe, but it would

Just tested, and it doesn't work there, either.

My 4th gen ThinkPad X1 Yoga is unusable as a tablet because it won't
deactivate the keyboard and trackpad when I flip it to tablet mode.
It's also the same when I try it on Kubuntu 20.04.
