We're seeing this bug consistently (although not consistent per se - the
error does not occur immediately after boot, and doesn't immediately
disconnect the server from the network; anything from 3 weeks to 3 hours
before it starts, and a day or so after is starts before it gets
permanently disconn

Prior to install whilst still in 'live' mode, I was unable to play
the.eagles.hotel.california using `vlc` :(
After install; I could play same the.eagles
Lubuntu 18.04 daily (2019-09-15)
Vlc is not installed by default on 18.04 (mpv is used), however adding it via
`apt install` during live session has same issue as with eoan/1910; it won't
start from menu or terminal.

Suspend system, waited 2 mins (was looking at wrong test-steps screen, noting

One further historical detail: when these machines were running 14.04.3
and we made the mistake of accepting the HardWare Enablement (HWE)
upgrade:

first encountered this unable-to-unblank

I quickly looked at the Xorg.log files from launchpad below. Right
after hotplug of tablet, usbParse() goes in infinite loop and prints
message about invalid serial #. Not positive its infinite loop but at
least the log stops with no messages beyond repeating error message. If
you wait long enou
eems to be back up and running OK. I don't know if there's
any more information I could provide to help track down this issue?

After several weekends of testing, I believe I can report with high
confidence that the kernel update to 4.17-rc2 fixes the second of the
two problems; specifically, we no longer see kernel crashes after using
Alt-SysRq-k to recover from frozen/hanging blank screens.

System will not load desktop graphical display after entering login
details at the login screen. Only way to launch GUI is to drop to a
terminal at the login screen and then run startx at which point the GUI
does load up

I haven't had crashes for some time, and note the following messages
appear (somewhat) like the initial description, but only stay briefly
before I'm asked for password (unlock screen, no crash & session resumes
as it should)
