I don't kow exectly why, but I've been abe to resolve ( see now SD cards and can read/write them!) on my ASUS X551CA with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and kernel 3.8.0-34-generic 64bit. Please remember that for 12.04 the issue was resolved, but for kernels following 3.2 the fix was not working anymore .Today

Kendatsuba, you made our day!! I can confirm that the fix worked on the following configuration. AS per Blaz, touchpad appears now OK in System settings and the touchpad works as expected. Ubuntu Version 12.04 (Precise) 64 Bit Kernel Linux 3.8.0-34-generic GNOME 3.4.2 Laptop ASUS model X551CA
