I've installed the kernel version in question, but I don't have any drivers
installed when I boot using this kernel.
So I must have done something wrong, still need to check out how to properly
install the kernel

Thank you for having provided me with this pointer. Seems like the manual
install of linux-image-5.15.0-117-generic didn't pull
linux-modules-extra-5.15.0-117-generic automatically.
Installation of the latter did the job and solved the problem.
I then also tried a re-instal
