Today I temporarily reverted back to Kernel 6.2.0-39-generic, by choosing it from the Grub bootloader, and the SMB 1.0 network shares started working correctly again. I think it is clear that Kernel 6.5 is broken in this respect. Fortunately, package linux-image-6.2.0-39-generic is still installed
