Only i8042.direct ... not good. Keyboard not working for x seconds
Only i8042.dumbkbd ... yes, works! Keyboard working immediatly.
So my /etc/default/grub now contains:

And stuff from dmesg:

I have the same problem on an Lenovo X260, i7-6500U. Using the
"i915.enable_dc=0 intel_idle.max_cstate=2" workaround has made the
system more stable.
This mostly seems to occur when playing a game in the browser (chrome &
firefox), e.g. chess.com.

And mine is worse - picking Ubuntu on XOrg has no effect.
ThinkPad P1 Gen3 has all HDMI/USBC monitors connected to NVidia only.
So I cannot use external monitor in any way shape or form. This is new,
btw.
