Have now tried using 4.14 kernel with Ubuntu 18.04 and it fixes the
problem. Using a 4.14 kernel with Ubuntu 18.04 and Kubuntu 18.04 allows
suspend to work as it should.
In the case of Ubuntu 18.04, it is the same for Ubuntu on X or Wayland.
i.e both fail on a 4.15+ kernel and both work using kern

The 2.6.37 kernel is not supported in any Ubuntu releases. Does this
bug exist on any supported kernels? Maybe give the current mainline
kernel a try?

Yes, this was after an upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) from
Ubuntu 17.10.1 (Artful Aardvark).
I will test with the latest upstream kernel.

Yes, this was after an upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) from
Ubuntu 17.10.1 (Artful Aardvark).
