Last Friday morning I got offered the -116 kernel - which broke the
nvidia driver module, forcing me to revert back to the -112 kernel.
Only today (not checked during the weekend) I got offered the compiler
update, from 4.8.4-2ubuntu1~14.04.3 to 4.8.4-

I am not sure which case applies, we use uvtool for the KVM smoke test for SRU
regression-tests on all the kernels.
It a bit wired that this is working for Artful image but not with the Xenial
image.

functional in libvirt directly, and the specific Ubuntu image you need

it looks like that the VM gone terribly wrong. But these VMs are just
plain ubuntus with docker, visual studio code and git. Nothing fancy,
don't know why

tried on the ubuntu released proposed kernel 4.15.0-10-generic and kdump
process was able to proceed (did not dump complete vmcore though) but hit
issue
Alright, I think I'm starting to narrow down the issue. I was able to
use apt-get and install kernels up to linux-image-4.4.0-112-generic.
I'm even able to install the latest, if I uninstall package 'linux-
generic' and manually install linux-image-4.4.0-116-generic, e.g.,
sudo apt-get purge linu
"as it will appear in kernel 4.17?"
Note, that 18.04 is currently targetting v4.15, thus above mentioned
commits, will need to be assessed by the kernel team for suitability to
be cherry-picked into v4.15 kernel. At least to me, the commits
mentioned, look mostly harmless.

Note that the fix is for the test, not for the kernel. The cause is that
we don't have LSM stacking patches yet for 4.15, which makes changes to
the config options.
