Thanks for asking and confirming on the installation of kernels. That
is the correct process. We only have one or two more to go.
I built the next test kernel, up to the following commit:
8d796174763c89ec63b45699665d66ddf2050296
The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~
We only have about 4 more kernels to test. We could try making changes
to the changes with cgroups. We could even revert some of them.
However, it could be hit or miss. A bisect will tell us exactly which
commit started this, and then we can examine that commit to know what is
going on.

I haven't tried any previous Ubuntu or kernel releases. I'm not doing
anything special to compile perf myself, i.e., I just run make in
tools/perf. Looking at tools/perf/Makefile.config, it seems like
auxtrace gets disabled if GCC is detected to not have __get_cpuid, which
makes it seems like a bug
