Yes, I'll rebuild that test kernel with the two patches. The second
patched does not apply cleanly due to where the bisect is in time
currently.

Original Elpida (brand) RAM reported as DDR2, is DDR3. Replaced with

Looking at you Xlog I seen the same problem as in mine
[36.472] (II) modeset(0): Output VGA-1 has no monitor section
[46.854] (II) modeset(0): Output SVIDEO-1 has no monitor section
Almost 10 seconds gone there and:

Sadly Ubuntu 16.10 final does have this bug. Boot the ISO on a GTX 970
system and you just get an orange screen.
To work around the problem I have to add kernel parameter: nomodeset

although the issue may come down to a different package.
I issued an "apt-get --purge autoremove" command to clear out some old
kernel packages, and the command took several minutes to complete due to
kernel m
I should point out, the update-initramfs invocations should also not be
happening for kernel packages being removed.

Setting net.ipv4.neigh.default.gc_thresh1/2/3 on 3.13.0-97.144 or

Was to fast -- non of these kernels work! They'll boot to login, but
leaving the system alone for some time -> no keyboard, no mouse. Looks
like these are started by systemd, but then terminated again. Maybe it's
two different errors one being solved by changing kernels, one within
system startup .
