I can confirm the issue with makedumpfile on amd64. However, the crc32c
module issue does not appear on amd64 and the module is indeed present
in the smaller initrd created for kdump (present in
/var/lib/kdump/initrd.img-4.8.0-11-generic).

I can confirm the reported bug of dfs-referrals had been fixed in
4.4.0-36.55. However, the newer kernel 4.4.0-38.57 has another problem
at a more fundamental level: no mount at all.
The fix-reverted version from #39 (4.4.0-38.57+lp1612135v201609211623)
re-introduces the original dfs-ref
This is the first test that boots the root disk without an initrd.
Indeed booting it with debug shows that the kernel detects no hard disks
then (in particular not /dev/sda1), thus the boot fails like that.
With 4.4, or with 4.8 and booting with an initrd it detects the sda hard
drive again:

Also segfault during collecting information with 'ubuntu-bug linux', but not
sure it is related:

That's what I thought - this is a new bug not related to this one nor
caused by it's fix. So someone please run 'ubuntu-bug linux' in a
