Hello,
I've tested the suggested current image (xenial-desktop-amd64.iso
08-Feb-2016 08:09 1.4G) and it works!
As a sidenote, in Ubuntu 15.10 the kernel (4.2.0-27-generic) still doesn't work.

I'm still able to duplicate this bug using:
linux-image-3.13.0-78-generic (from trusty-backports)
linux-image-3.19.0-50-generic (from linux-image-generic-lts-vivid)
The LXC images failed to start under linux-image-4.2.0-28-generic, with
a kernel oops.
I also tried, in Xenial, linux-image-4.4.0-2

Public bug reported:
Create a trusty or xenial host. Probably use ubuntu-lxc/daily ppa to
work around other bugs.
Create a privileged container (again either trusty or xenial will do),
and install ubuntu-lxc/daily ppa there.
Create an unprivileged container in that container. It will fail at

I'm quite certain this is not an apparmor issue, since leaving
everything unconfined does not help.
It could be something we're doing wrong in lxc, but I'm not sure what.
It could be something inherent in mounting onto an open fd.

@marco-pallotta: it is more like a workaround instead of a fix.

Note that an unprivileged user on the host is able to do these mounts.
Unprivileged users inside a privileged container cannot.
