Bug 1439612 was meant to identify our solution for the 14.04.03 release.
We were unable to get all the patches/fixes we wanted for this driver,
as a number of fixes were not yet accepted into the kernel maintainer's
tree.
We were informed that 14.04.03 was locked down.

Title:
Understood. I agree that not completely breaking virtual machines in
some hypervisors is important. While I'm required to use bare-metal
installs on these systems, I depend on VMs as much as the next person.
There has to be an alternate solution.

The two bugs have essentially the same title and read as you want the
lpfc driver updated for 14.04.3. The 14.04.3 release will use the lts-
vivid kernel as the default. Are you trying to update the lpfc driver in
the lts-vivid kernel or in the trusty kernel?
