Since the last distro upgrade to Kubuntu 14.10 (64 bit) from 14.04
(Kernel 3.13) the WiFi reconnection after suspend to RAM doesn't work
properly anymore.
As workaround I switch back to suspend to RAM again and then doing a
immediate wakeup.

I think your problem is with video driver. Did you install any proprietary
driver?
If you install e.g. Nvidia driver from a file .run downloaded from Nvidia site,
the driver is not registered

The system is booting normally with the Kernel provided by the Ubuntu
repositories, yes. I have a UX303LA so not Nvidia drivers. I'm just
using Intel drivers provided by Ubuntu. Nothing special, more or less
out of the box Ubuntu setup. And yes I would install it from
repositories but from which on

As a workaround, creating an xorg.conf file and specifying
"intel_backlight" seems to work, but I would love for this to work out
of the box. Does something need to be changed in the kernel to recognize
that this model of Toshiba uses the Intel Backlight?
