I think this is a system specific issue (it depends on the BIOS).
Quoting Bbswitch's documentation:
On some machines, turning off the card is permanent and the card does
not reappear on subsequents reboots, which can result into the screen
staying black all the time, including the BIOS screen. If
I tried the proposed fix on my Dell XPS 13 (Sputnik 3) system. With the
proposed kernel 3.13.0-26, the touchpad works in fact without
blacklisting i2c_hid.
However, the touchscreen ceases to work with the proposed kernel (it

It might be useful to know: with IBM blade centers the remote access
wasn't working also from 13.10. A colleague found out that if we change
the power saving options for the relevant usb devices in
/lib/udev/rules.d/42-usb-hid-pm.rules from "auto" to "on", it works fine
again.

I got the BIOS update complete. The issue seems to be solved, although
