As the original reporter I want to apologise to all of the affected
people here - I was not aware that my comment that I don't own the
hardware anymore will result in the bug being closed as "won't fix".
Hopefully the patch will make it to the kernel and the fix will reach
Ubuntu anyway.

Sorry for the late response.
This bug was a major annoyance, so I re-installed a fresh copy of 13.04
a couple of weeks after filing the bug and everything works ok again.
If there's a way I can provide more info without re-upgrading to 13.10
(thus risking to make the system unusable again) I'd be

daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will
allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested
