I think the point is that this laptop IS supplied AND certified for Ubuntu
single boot and as so is supplied in BIOS (they say Legacy) mode.
The LCD back-light issue appeared as a regression for the ones who stayed in

Can you confirm THIS bug report is a duplicate of bug #954661?
This question because the bug #954661 by Daniel Jared Domiguez was found on a
l321x machine when this #1182376 is found in a l32
The adding of acpi_backlight=vendor into grub boot option FIXED the
problem in my Dell Inspiron 15R. I'm using the 3.11.0-9-generic 64 bits
kernel.
Without the proposed fix, the only way I have found to turn brightness
to MAX was setting the config below as ROOT:

Update: I observed this bug on Kernel 3.5.0-40 also. I tried disabling
802.11n, enabling sw_enc and all possible combinations on for the
iwlwifi driver. Nothing seems to work.
