I'm wondering if the upstream change "Fix locking in SRIOV mode of mlx4 driver, from Jack Morgenstein" might fix this issue. It's part of this merge to Dave Miller's tree, and later to 5.1: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/drivers/net/ethernet/mellanox?h=v5.
