Update: after rebooting today the touchpad worked for a few minutes.
Then, in the middle of using FIREFOX, the pointer got stuck. I was
forced to connect the mouse.
PLEASE HELP!!! this is a ridiculous situation.

There were no recent proposals for a fix.
I am now using a mouse, because the tochpad "decided" to quit responding. This
is quite annoying!

The bug continues after kernel upgrade. Perhaps in lesser frequency.
Just now, after some OKULAR work, the pointer got stuck. Closing the lid
(that puts the computer into suspend mode) and then opening again
repairs the pointer motion.
Does that indicate that some buffer needs to be cleared, or s
@tjaalton: After a day, the report is not good: the touchpad still fails after
a while.
(Right now I am using the extenal mouse.)
Isn't there any diagnostic procedure that can help determine the
problem?

@tjaalton: I upgraded to kernel 4.10. The touchpad seems to behave
better. I am still testing it.
