Due to a hardware failure, Ubuntu was restored on the SSD of the machine
instead of a native install on USB media. Suspend/resume now work
properly.

emk2203, the laptop was released fairly recently (mid-2013), so let us
put that aside for now. Lastly, could you please test the latest
mainline kernel via http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v3.17-rc3-utopic/ and advise to the results?

Not sure, because the laptop never slept by itself, just monitor in
energy save. Sleep is only forced by lid down or pm-suspend.

emk2203, let the scope of this report only focus on "entering sleep mode
by itself", with the pm-suspend being a WORKAROUND to this.
Hence, was this reproducible in a release prior to Utopic?

was premature. The bug is not appearing if I pm-suspend the machine, but
entering sleep mode by itself caused the crash again.
