I seem to be a bit late here, but this bug affects me, too.
I have your same laptop and I am experiencing it with Xubuntu 14.04.3 with
kernel 3.13.0-63 and CentOS 7 with Gnome and kernel 3.10.0-229, thus i do not
think this is Ubuntu fault.
It does not seem to be a Bios/Machine fault either:
