This bug is (most probably) related to power_save issues of the Ath9K
module.
WORKAROUND: Disabling power saving mode (iw dev wlan0 set power_save
off) fixed the problem. I added the following udev rule to set it right:
/etc/udev/rules.d/70-wifi-ath9k.rules

ath9_common, mac80211 my wireless adapter is no longer recognized. dmesg

Though I'm not from Ubuntu clan (so I'm not reopening bug), I do have
the same problem on Linux 3.4.58 i686. My adapter is AR9285 (EEE PC
1215b)
When I do `ifconfig wlp1s0 up`, I get

Evertjan Garretsen, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
