Yep, I'd wish to withdraw my previous comment. Wifi still drops out
requiring a restart on MATE. It doesn't haven't as often for me on Mate
-- about ever three days instead of every few hours -- but it still
occurs.

Don't know if this will help, but I heard that Ubuntu Mate does
something different with their network stack, so I switched (Ubuntu Mate
16.10). I had this same wifi drop with both Unity and Gnome 3, but have
had pretty much no issues on Ubuntu Mate -- one crash in a week, and I'm
not even sure tha
I've been having the same issue for a number of months now, not fixed on
the upgrade to 16.10. It's now happening multiple times a day, meaning
the laptop needs to be connected via ethernet for it to be reliable.
Anything I can do? Just report it to the Ubuntu repository kernel like

Happening daily, often multiple times a day, on kernel 4.4.0-34-generic.
It happens more often if the screen goes blank/screensaver, so I started
using caffeine to just keep it from happening as often as it did. Still
goes out randomly, requires a restart. This is makes using a laptop that

As Gena said -- happens multiple times a day on 16.04 with kernel
4.4.0-31. Still occurred with kernel 4.4.0-28, but less frequently.
