I cannot verify as of when this issue started.
I did use the USB devices in question with 18.04.1 (prior to the upgrade to
18.10) and they did work fine.
Currently I have no chance to test a newer kernel. Will do as soon as possible

I have to change USB devices regularly (from HD to USB flash and to
flash emulating devices - MicroPython board - which also emulates an
input controller).
The head phone pairs, the microphone does not.
Further, the sound still is very low and jittery.
Useless to listen to music over this device under these conditions.

In my case, the Bose QC35 pairs as a head phone only and this only in
case, the head phone is not paired with any other device (in my case, it
was first paired with a mobile phone).
However, using a BT mouse makes sound output extremly jittery.

I can confirm the issue pertaining in the current version on any
combination of hardware.
It starts with an error from the powerd. The mouse battery reading turns
to 0 (indicated by red outlined battery symbol in the top bar)
Then the mouse stops and after some frantic gesturing, the powerd reads
it works on the MBP 6,2 now with kernel 3.8.0.28
However I have a similar issue with a MacBook Pro with Retina display
(15").
In order to get the machine to sleep, I have to open system settings /
power management and just click on the button to sleep when the lid is
closed.
This does the trick.
I'm not worried about rebooting. I am worried about that I do not have
access to the machine. It is used and the person using it travels
around.
I hope to get a hand on the machine after the summer.
So, if there is an easier way to install a kernel I could ask the user
to do it
