Yes, with the 3.16.0-30-generic kernel downloaded and booted on a Ubuntu
14.10 system I get full expected behaviour from my USB OTG devices,
consistent with Ubuntu 14.04.

Problem was caused by a newer version of Metacity uploaded to the
archives that broke the desktop. Resolved by Compiz
1:0.9.12+14.10.20140812-0ubuntu1 which was built against the new
Metacity.
