personally tested it with every version since 12.04.

Any kernel (including mainline builds) fails to produce working sound.
For example, in Kubuntu, there is only a buzzing noise from headphones
or speakers plugged in to the front or back and the sound card is not
recognized in Phonon. A log is worth a thousand words...
