After successful install go to settings "Bluetooth" and select the on
tab in upper right hand corner and nothing happens.

In my initial post I forgot to mention that after the error message if
ok is selected the machines then freeze - so the desktop session is
never available.

I can also confirm that kernel 5.4.0-26 solved the problem. Retested and
all as should be.

Happy New Year!
Acer Aspire E3-111-P605 with Insyde BIOS in legacy mode when updated to
lubuntu 17.10 resulting in the problem unable to boot from USB or save
changes in the BIOS.
My solution was to upgrade the kernel to 4.14.10. Still unable to make any
changes in BIOS.
However when booting GRU
