Per your request: switched back up to kernel 5.4.0-198 and repeated same
actions that generated errors. This time I could NOT duplicate the
errors. Perhaps simply rebooting resolved my prior issues.
I installed apport system, and will use it to document errors if they
recur.

My jEdit text editor system failed when trying to search in a temporary file.
Also failed when trying to exit from a temporary file. This happened after
upgrade to kernel 5.4.0-198.
After rollback to kernel 5.4.0-196 my issues disappeared.
