I don't have the machine anymore (it wasn't a mine, I replaced XP with Ubuntu for another person) so that I could collect logs. From the bug it should be clear what is the issue (broken driver selected for the HW explicitly by Ubuntu specific blacklist), so setting confirmed as requested by above
